Classic Castles

  • Stirling Castle, Scotland – I believe this to be the best viewpoint for photographing the castle. Parts of the castle date back to the 14th Century. Mary Queen of Scots was crowned here.
  • Dunrobin Castle, Golspie, Scotland – The largest house in the Scottish Highlands, with a keep that dates back to the 13th Century. It was remodelled in the 1840s by the architect who designed the Houses of Parliament in London.  It is certainly imposing.
  • Scone Palace, Perth, Scotland – It was in this atmospheric palace that many of the Scottish kings were crowned, including Robert the Bruce.
  • Dunnottar Castle, Stonehaven, Scotland – Dramatic, medieval, ruined, cliff-top fortress. Once home to one of the most powerful families in Scotland.  Prepare for a bit of a climb!  Nothing much to see from within, but lots of photographic opportunities on the walk up to the castle.
